Easy to Do Nail Care Tips

by Jen Hopkins

Nail care need not be limited to just the basics, especially for women who want to have beautiful nails. Most women would still go to nail salons to have their nails done. But with some of these advanced nail care tips, you won't even have to go to nail salons and spend money just to have beautiful nails.

One of the most important things that you should remember about nail care is that nails are growing tissues. Because of this, whatever you put into your body will have effects on the growth of your nails. Having a well balanced diet will be a good way to make your nails grow strong and healthy. On the other hand, always eating junk food and having bad habits such as smoking may contribute to having weaker nails.

The use of nail polish is something that should be done correctly. A lot of women tend to abuse the use of nail polish as they want to always have beautiful looking nails. Even though nail polish can have protective effects, its constant use can also lead to weakening and discoloration of nails due to the chemicals included in the polish. Nails should be allowed to breathe from time to time.

The use of nail polish removers, especially acetone based ones should also be limited. This is because they can cause nails to become dry and brittle. Such nails are prone to breaking easily, which is something that you wouldn't like. Aside from being ugly to look at, cracked nails are also very painful to deal with. It would take a long time before they will go back to normal. So it is better to limit the use of nail polish removers once a week at most.

Similar to how nail polish removers cause nails to become dry, exposure to other chemicals can also lead to the weakening of nails. Chemicals such as bleach when used in cleaning can have the same effect as removers. Mechanical damage such as nail biting should also be avoided. It is best to avoid exposure to these substances and situations by wearing gloves at times when they are needed.

Keeping the nails hydrated are important so it might be a good idea to apply hand lotion after washing your hands or exposing them to drying agents. Hand lotion will keep the nails moisturized and prevent them from cracking easily while also making your hands soft.

If you have naturally weak nails, something that you can try is dipping your nails in warm olive oil for 20-30 minutes a few times each week. Supplementing your diet with food rich in protein, sulfur and calcium are also good ways to enhance the strength of your nails.

These are just a few nail care tips that you can follow to maintain those beautiful and healthy nails. You don't need to keep on going to nail salons just to have beautiful nails. With the correct knowledge about nail care, together with some changes in your habits, you won't even have to get your nails done.
